My Acne Battle: The Remedy

As promised, I’d like to share with you how I managed to outplay my bout with acne. Fortunately, I met this wonderful OBGyne who fairly pointed out that the products I used were totally impractical due to the fact that the dilemma was not with my skin but more than that. We dug down to the very root of my dispute. After all the smart talk with her, she prescribed me an oral contraceptive. This is no ordinary pill. It corrects hormonal imbalance. I didn’t know that birth control pills actually had other uses apart from its main string.

I’ve been taking it for over a year now. I am well-pleased of what it has done to me. Take a look at how I looked like after 6 months of taking Althea.

To somehow conceal the redness and foul pus, I put on some BB cream.

I didn’t use this long because I found out that this wasn’t suitable for my oily skin. At the time, my face was way too greasy! 😀 By happy chance, I got a new one from Etude House.

This one is recommended for oily skin type. I’ve been an avid user for almost 2 years now.

After over a year, this is what my face looks like now:

I’m glad to say that the pimples hardly pop up. That being said, my confidence has come to life. What I’m working on now is getting rid of the acne scars. 😀

Having a Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is one heck of a discouragement and hassle. It makes your skin obnoxious to some extent. You tend to have mood swings. And worst of all, it may deprive you of giving birth. The unfavorable word to use is, barren. Scary, isn’t it? However, I’ve learned not to chicken out of something that needs to be faced. If you have this syndrome, don’t take it negatively, but make yourself brave enough to defeat the battle. 🙂

  1. I also had a huge acne problem when I came to Korea. Following a beauty routine of cream face wash and morning and evening face creams seemed to help. I think it had something to do with the dry weather…

  2. Glad you are doing better. My son had acne much worse and it came on him all of a sudden in his late teens. He was treated for years with antibiotics and something called Retin-A that was very popular at the time. It helped him. I was not sure what the actual cause was, but actually must have been hormonal in nature as well. God bless.

      1. Yeah. And sometimes, my menstruation either comes early or late. I’m using a period tracker app, and it shows there when I’m late for 3 or 5 days or when it’s early. Is that considered as abnormality?

          1. Ok then. I feel abdominal pain sometimes. But not something unbearable. It only happens when I eat foods that are not supposed to be eaten when having menstruation ☺

  4. Wow! You’ve come so far… I have Rosacea myself, which is a lot like acne in some ways. My face gets red and I have to use a morning and night cream to keep it from getting worse. Such a pain, since the first thing people notice is our faces. I’m glad to see you are having improvement through what you’re doing. Finding the right stuff to use can be time consuming and expensive. Take care! ~M

      1. It’s not easy… I have to avoid the sun, which has made me severely vitamin D deficient. I have to avoid using hair dryers. The heat makes it worse and I use two different prescription gel/creams. Also, eating spicy foods or becoming embarrassed makes it worse. Lol…
