A Japanese style of skewered chicken is called yakitori here in Japan and it’s one of my favorites. It reminds me of Cebu. Just so you know, my hometown boosts its delish barbecue. Cooking method wise, they’re the same. The difference is that in Cebu, the meat is always left in a marinade prior to grilling. It’s in the marinade that one can tell if the barbecue is heavenly or not. However, this isn’t the case for yakitori.
When visiting Japan, this should be on your to-eat list. Depending on your area, this dish isn’t difficult to find. There are small shops specializing in yakitori. You can also have them at Japanese pubs (izakaya), supermarkets, and big convenience stores. Prices vary from shop to shop. Typically, it’s sold at 100JPY (tax excluded).
For convenience stores, no doubt I go to Family Mart. Why? I’ll tell you straight out. Their yakitori is not just delectable, but also big in size. Oh, another thing is that it’s not even greasy. What’s not to love about it?
They offer yakitori in different types of seasonings. I’ll give you two today. They’re the basic ones and most bought.
Its juiciness and saltiness complement each other perfectly. Not too salty, of course.
Its sweetness is addictive! It’s as juicy as the first one.
They’re actually worth the price. Both are tender and grilled to perfection. So when in doubt, head over to your nearest Family Mart!
